Head of Nokia Worldwide to Speak at McMaster University
HAMILTON, ON, March 8, 2011 … Stephen Elop, Chairman and CEO, Nokia
Corporation, will speak at McMaster University on Friday, April 1,
2011. He is the guest speaker at the 27th annual J.W. Hodgins
Memorial Lecture. This will be Mr. Elop’s first public engagement in
North America since becoming CEO in September 2010.
Mr. Elop will share his views with students and the community on The
Mobile Future. He will discuss how the integration of mobile
technology and social media will influence the integration of
political, sociological, geographical, and educational borders.
McMaster University will induct Mr. Elop into the McMaster Alumni
Gallery prior to his talk.
The lecture and the induction ceremony will be held in the Michael
DeGroote Centre for Learning and Discovery, Room 1105. Event website

The lecture is free of charge. Seating is limited and available on a
first-come basis.
Mr. Elop is a graduate of the computer engineering and management
program (1986) at McMaster. He was presented an Honorary Doctor of
Science Degree by the University in 2009.
Mr. Elop is the first non-Finnish chief executive of Nokia. Prior to
joining Nokia, he was president, Microsoft Business Division,
Microsoft Corporation. He has also served as Chief Operating Officer
of Juniper Networks, president of worldwide field operations of
Adobe Systems Inc., and president and CEO of Macromedia Inc.
The J.W. Hodgins Memorial Lecture was established by the Faculty of
Engineering in 1983 in memory of John W. Hodgins, McMaster's first
Dean of Engineering. Each year, a prominent guest is invited to
share their insights into how technological and scientific
advancements are reshaping our society.
