GPI Networking Breakfasts - March 25th, and May 27th

 

*       EVENT: NEXT GPI BREAKFAST MARCH 25, “Show me the money!” This breakfast will use a different format, featuring several speakers on accessing funding, and several success stories and tips from companies that have used these public and private sectorgrants, contributions and loans.  This will be of interest to newly forming or expanding companies, and will be surrounded by a “trade show” of key funding partners in Canada’s commercialization sector. *       EVENT: The next BioBusiness Connect Roundtable is April 21 in the boardroom of the Business Improvement Group. 6PM start with light refreshments and a focused discussion of opportunities in the environmental, cleantech and green sectors, with a lead-in speaker from OCETA, Ontario’s focal point for these sectors. This is a peer-to-peer group with discussion and sharing of ideas the goal. Contact admin@guelphinnovation.com to register, there is no cost for this event.

 

*       MONEY: If you have a growing cleantech company, you will be interested in the” Clean 15” competition.

 

*       TECHNOLOGY: The Multi-species Medical School at Guelph does it again. Studies of domestic animals may prove useful in humans. Guelph research on reproduction in dairy cows has lead to an important discovery that may assist people having difficulty conceiving. Thyroid hormone has been shown to enhance survival of cattle embryos, and because of the similarities between human and cattle reproductive physiology, could do the same in humans and other species. 

 

*       NEWS: The food manufacturing industry is now the largest employer in the manufacturing sector. In November, Statistics Canada reported there were 222,300 employees in food manufacturing, compared with 159,100 in transportation equipment.

 

*       EVENT: This month’s GTO P2P session is at 6PM, March 11th, at the Red Brick Café on Westmount Rd, Guelph. The meeting will feature an open mike format with Jeff Beradine, Innosphere, Arni Mikelsons, Northern Village Solutions, and others. *       EVENT: Entrepreneurship 101 at McMaster brings you the 2010 Quick Pitch Competition – an opportunity to do your 60 second pitch on an innovative idea, product or service. Prizes are $1500 for Gold, $750 for Silver and $500 for Bronze. Thursday March 25th, 2010 from 6PM to 9PM.

 

*       MONEY: The OCE First Job program supports 50% of the salary of industrial interns. This program is always over-subscribed, and the deadline is May 15, so APPLY NOW.
